built at a temporary shipyard in Mariehamn 1886-89, 1986 the timber was procured, 1987 keel was laid, ceremoniously launched in July 1988 during the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race in Mariehamn, rigged in spring of 1989, sailed the first time in May 1989
since when the vessel has been a symbol for seafaring in this region
has proved to be a fast sailing ship on many occasions
the "Albanus" is now used mainly for training schoolchildren and young people in the art of traditional sailing.
