Australia's biggest sail training ship, built as a sister ship to the Spirit of New Zealand and intended for young people on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the founding of Australia.
She is named after a Dutch galleon which in 1622 was the first to sail around Cape Leeuwin, the southwestern cape of Australia.
She mostly offers ten-day voyages for young people, passing on seamanship and building character; the programmes are also available to groups and companies.
She has sailed mainly in home waters, took part in the Sydney to Hobart Tall Ships Race in 1988 and in the regatta from Fremantle to Bali in 1990.
Her hull was built keel upwards and launched in that position, then righted in the water and slipped again so that she could be completed.
In August 2024 a container ship badly damaged her in Fremantle Port, destroying her rigging completely.
