Built as a cargo sailing ship in 1914. On her first voyage, to St Petersburg, she was confiscated after the outbreak of the First World War.

Between 1925 and 1957 she carried cargo from Hamburg across the North and Baltic Seas under several names — as Hanna for Captain W. Richter from 1929, and from 1936 as Kurt Both for Captain M. Both, carrying cement from Bremen to Heligoland for the naval base. Sold to Scandinavia, her two forward wooden masts were replaced by a single steel one; in 1950 her hull was lengthened and she became a motor vessel. A Swedish firm bought her in 1957 and renamed her Ringö before she passed to P. Gronquist of Finland.

In 1981 she returned to Hamburg and was completely restored to her original state, earning the highest class from Germanischer Lloyd. She cruised the Mediterranean, the Canaries and the Caribbean in winter and sailed with the German sail training fleet out of Kiel in summer, flying the Antiguan flag from 1987 and appearing regularly at Kieler Woche and the Hanse Sail in Rostock. A major refit followed in 1997–98.

Thien & Heyenga managed her until 2004, supported by the ship's friends association, after which the Hanse-Koggewerft took her over with registration in Hamburg. After lying unused and deteriorating in Hamburg for several years, she was sold in 2022 to the Nordic Expedition Sailing Society in Finland. Her new home port is Ekenäs; she has been thoroughly overhauled and equipped for charter voyages with guests.
