Her building began on 28 December 1912 at the Van Diepen yard in Waterhuizen as hull number 417, and in May 1913 she was delivered to H. Schröder of Dornbusch as Helene. She was fitted with a 25 hp Deutz diesel.
In 1928 she was registered as the sailing vessel with auxiliary engine Grete for the shipowner J. Rademacher. In 1930 the fuel merchant E. Hilgendorf of Groß-Stepenitz bought her, registered her as Alfred and ran cargo to Stettin. His son took her over in 1936 and worked her in the bay and backwater region until 1952; she was laid up at Anklam in 1956.
From 1957/58 she survived through the commitment of the skipper, folklorist, monument conservator and author Wolfgang Rudolph. In 1969 she was saved from the breakers by sale to the association Nationale Forschungs- und Gedenkstätten Weimar, and from February 1970 lay at Seedorf on Rügen serving as a workshop and store for holiday homes.
After German reunification she passed to the museum harbour at Greifswald. She was given a new hull bottom, launched for the second time in 1995 and brought to Greifswald. An ownership group held her from 1996 and a single owner, H. Meyer, from 1997. Her rig was stepped in 1997 and she made her second maiden voyage on 6 December that year.
