built 1911 in the "Stlcken" shipyard in Hamburg as the "Senator Brockes", the vessel was initially used as a merchant navy training ship.

she was later converted into a light ship and lay in the "Elbe 4" position until 1914.

she then became a pilot station from 1916 to 1918 and from 1918 to 1936 she lay in the "Elbe 3" position.

from October 1942, she was under navy command in the Baltic Sea and from July 1945 was located in the "Elbe 2" position until she was de-commissioned.

she was lavishly converted from 1986 to 1994 and rigged as a bark, after which she sailed the coastal waters of England, France and Belgium.

the "Europa" is a windjammer in charter service, and regularly takes part in regatta events, such as the 1995 Sail Bremerhaven, the 1996 Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race, the 1998 "Kieler Woche" and the 1998 and 1999 Hanse Sail in Rostock.

she also sailed in the 2nd Hiorten Regatta from Karlskrona to Rostock in 1998.

since 2,000 she is operated by Smit Tall Ship B.V. from Amsterdam

she took part in the Tall Ship 2000 race organized by the ISTA, and will visited South American waters and the Antarctic then

2004-2005 visit of ports at the Eastcoast of Ameica and Canada before she started anothert expedition to the Antarctic.

Nov 2012 begin of a circumnavigation together with "Tecla" and "Oosterschelde" rounding Cape Hope, Cape Leeuwin and Cape Horn, participation in sailing events and Tall Ships Races held in Australia.
