Built in 1911 at the Øxenbjerg yard in Svendborg as the sailing freighter Brita, she worked for many years in Sweden.
In 1941 she sank south of the island of Samsø and was raised and repaired. During the Second World War she was used to carry Jewish people fleeing the Nazis to Sweden.
After the war she served as a platform for stone and wreck salvage, and eventually, in poor condition, was offered for sale.
In 1972 Otto and Jens Leth bought her and began a thorough restoration as a sailing ship. She is classified as Danish cultural heritage and carries the name Brita Leth.
Today she sails with guests from Svendborg and competes in many regional regattas.
