Built in 1909 at the Fredriksöens Varv in Svendborg and rigged as a schooner. Her first name was Emanuel and her first owner M. Rasmussen of Strynø.
In 1916 she left the Danish register, probably sold to Norway, where Herman Jensen and Chr. Wintermark of Risør renamed her Mull. In 1921 a shipping company near the Tången peninsula in Sweden bought her, renamed her Anna Lisa, fitted a 35 hp engine and kept her in the coastal freight trade. In 1923 she passed to a company from Hovenäset.
By 1927 she was in poor condition and was struck from the register; the following year she was overhauled and rebuilt at the Björkenäs yard in southern Sweden. Eskil Mattias Johansson bought her in 1929 and renamed her Wanda; from 1933 she was registered at Bohus-Malmön for Carl Julius Eriksson, and in 1937 received a new 50 hp engine. After further owners she was sold in 1961 to the writer Sune Broberg of Gothenburg, who wanted her as a private yacht, and in 1962 John Stefanus Andersson converted her to a single-masted jagt carrying fish waste.
In 1965 Einar Karlsson of Kungsviken acquired her, rigged her again as a schooner, fitted her out for sailing with people and named her Atene. Since 1980 she has belonged to the newly founded M/S Atene association, which has worked on her continuously; in 1990 her hull was substantially altered at the yard in Hällevikstrand to restore her original form.
Today she sails the Swedish coast with members and guests, runs youth voyages and takes part in tall ship races.
