Built in 1930 at the Nobiskrug yard in Rendsburg to the order of W. J. Penns of Hamburg, launched in July 1930 as the motor schooner Annemarie and registered for Captain Julius Penns.
Her hull was lengthened at Nobiskrug in 1935. From 1939 she was requisitioned for military service as a supply and transport vessel — among other duties off the French Channel coast and minesweeping in the Baltic — and returned to her owner in 1945. She was registered in Kiel from 1948, and in 1953 was lengthened again and re-engined.
From 1954 J. Thode of Hamburg managed her, staying on after her sale in 1963. Her home port moved to Itzehoe in 1977 and later to Hamburg. Thode gave up operating her in 1987 and she was finally decommissioned in 1991.
In 1992 Makarenko Schiffahrts bought her intending a charter conversion, but she lay for years at the Eberhardt yard in Arnis and in 1995/96 lost all her deck equipment apart from the masts. In 2004 she was moved to Sassnitz and stripped to a bare hull.
In 2008 the Europäische Jugendhanse association bought her and continues her restoration as a three-masted topsail schooner. Registered in Rendsburg since August 2008, she is dedicated to work with young people learning to maintain and sail a seagoing ship.
