Built in 1926 by the Pensacola Ship Building Company, she worked as a pilot schooner in Mobile Bay until 1966.
Between 1995 and 1998 the G. S. Maynard Shipbuilding Company rebuilt her completely for the passenger trade and fitted twin diesels. She has been operated by the Coastwise Packet Company since 1998.
Today she often sails with young people from the southern New England coast, everyone taking a hand in sailing and cleaning the ship, and she is also available for charter and day trips. Registered as a passenger vessel, she passes regular US Coast Guard inspections. The operating company was later taken over by The Black Dog, giving the present name The Black Dog Tall Ships.
