A bowspritless vessel solidly built of oak and pine. She spent twenty-seven years fishing the North Atlantic and earned the name "highliner" — the biggest money-maker of all time in her trade. Her record year was 1934, when she landed fish worth some 364,000 dollars.
Retired in 1953 and refitted, she carried passengers on pleasure cruises along the Maine coast from 1954 through 1988.
In 1988 she was donated to Gloucester Adventure Inc. on the condition that she "will continue to be cared for, prominently displayed as a monument to the City of Gloucester and used for the education and pleasure of the public". A thorough reconstruction of the hull began in 1990, continued in 1997/98 and was finally completed in 2015 with the renovation of her interior.
She has returned to active sailing as a platform for maritime education programmes, chiefly along the New England coast.
