This iron vessel, built in 1920 at F. Krupp Germaniawerft in Kiel, began life as a freighter. She was converted into a barquentine in the late 1990s and now carries guests on the IJsselmeer.
She is named after the Dutch navigator Abel J. Tasman (1603–1659), who reached Tasmania and part of present-day New Zealand in 1642 and, a year later, became the first European to visit Tonga and Fiji.
